The unthinkable has happened. The dead are returning to life. After making it through the initial outbreak, college student Ed Mann escaped L.A. with a group of other survivors. They soon crossed paths with a squad of soldiers who offered them refuge at The Hoover Dam. All was not as it seemed.
Now they’re on their own again – navigating the cruel desert and trying to form some sort of plan. All Ed wanted to do was get back to his family on the East Coast. As each day passes, it seems increasingly unlikely he’ll ever see them again.
Ed Mann- Ed was a student at UCLA when the outbreak started. He escaped with a handful of other survivors, but there were casualties along the way. All he wants is to get back to New York to search for his family. Shy and rather timid, Ed was barely surviving before the zombie apocalypse. Now he’s trying to figure out his place in this nightmarish new world.
Alyssa St. Claire- The badass warrior of the group. Alyssa has saved Ed’s life on numerous occasions, but she’s a woman of few words. Her motives for sticking with them are unknown and her mysterious past often makes Ed nervous. Allies are in short supply, though and there’s no question that Alyssa is the only reason any of them have made it this far.
Bill Banks- Bill and his son Colin were on their way home from a hunting trip when throngs of the walking dead began to appear. They helped Ed and the others get out of L.A., but Colin was killed not long after. Bill was the moral center of the group, but the agony of losing his son has changed him. Alyssa understands he’s in pain, but she’s keeping a close eye on him.
Beth McKinnon- After being held captive in The Hoover Dam by a bunch of deranged men posing as soldiers, Beth eventually escaped with the help of Ed and the others. She’s been enjoying a physical relationship with Alyssa, but is having a difficult time getting her to admit it’s anything more.
Emily Moore- A ten-year-old who has been deeply affected by witnessing her father’s brutal murder. She’s become increasingly withdrawn and violent. It’s clear that she’s heading down a bad path, but she’s surrounded by people who are either unfit or unsure how to be a guardian to her.
