So Why Was Rick Spared?

Hmm. Maybe tanning lotion is like an unsavory condiment for the undead. Like me with pickles. Holy hell do I hate pickles. Especially whole pickles. They look like weird, warty martian dicks to me. And I’m sure they taste like them as well. I probably shouldn’t write blogs when I’m this tired.

Anyways, the key to Rick’s survival is actually in a previous strip (and is probably incredibly obvious). Needless to say, some interesting developments await our Knight in Shining Bronzer.

Next week we get our first clue regarding Stacy’s fate. See you then!

And we’re back…

At this point it’s probably pretty apparent that we’ve been absolutely swamped with other work. Not the least of which was the release of our new film The Surprise Party this past Friday. Speaking of which, you can watch the movie right now in its entirety for no charge.

It was a pretty monumental task to get that finished up, but the night it went online I told Kristen my immediate priority was focusing on getting all caught up with Ed. There have been some issues with a new schedule I was trying to set for myself and I’m still trying to organize everything, but it’s all finally falling into place.

I feel terrible that Ed slipped between the cracks a few times these last two weeks, but it’s definitely not a sign of waning interest. In fact, I’m thrilled to be back in the middle of this without any distractions.

EMW’s First Birthday!

As I mentioned last week, today marks the one year anniversary of the comic. If you’re feeling nostalgic, check out the very first strip we published and how different it looks from what we’re doing now. The time has absolutely flown by. To me, it still feels like we’ve only been working on this for a few weeks.

Thanks for reading and for helping us reach this point. I can’t wait to see what the comic looks like in another year!

Our 50th Strip!

by Christopher on January 10, 2011 at 12:10 am

Today marks Ed’s 50th strip and next Monday will make it one year to the day that we published the very first comic. We have yet to begin aggressively promoting EMW since we always knew the first year (or two) would be a huge learning curve for us. Taking into consideration how many webcomics are over before they even really begin, we wanted some proof that we were in this for the long haul.

It’s so strange that to us, we already feel like this prelude is almost over. All the scripts have been finished, we’re a few strips ahead of what’s published, and we’re dedicating a lot more thought to the next chapter. But when you’re only putting up one strip a week, you forget how much longer it takes to hit each big beat of the story.

I think next week’s strip definitively pushes us into the final part of this particular story. There’s still a lot of ground to cover, but I think it’ll be clear that this is now the final act. And it’s a very fitting one-year anniversary.

It’s no secret that I think our current format has been extremely restrictive for us both in terms of storytelling and visuals. But this whole process has been invaluable to Kristen and myself and we’ve got some really ambitious plans for the next phase of the comic. We’re going to try and keep the elements we think have been working, but ultimately it’s going to look and feel a whole lot different.

I feel like I’ve been doing this song and dance for months now. But it’s only because I’m so excited. =-)

Ed’s on X-Mas Break…

Ed ate too many snowman cookies and drank too much eggnog. Him and the rest of the gang will be back on January 3rd. We’re at the tail end of this arc and once it’s complete the site and the comic are going through a huge overhaul. I can’t even express how excited we are.

Hope everyone’s enjoying the holidays! We’ll see you next week!
